It is suggested that in the early 20's a tornado came through and forced t he Gilseth's and Fred Colbert sr off their farmsteads.
Treva Solum grew up in the sma ehouse which was abandoned about 1970 and s uccumbed to arson as it was burned down about 1973. The log cabin school h ouse was also burned down. Apparently a young woman had gone off cent er so to speak and just enjoyed watching things burn.
Visited Soknedal Norway Aug 29, 2004. One of the most beautiful valleys I' ve ever seen. We visited with Erik and Oddny Lokken current owners of wh at was called Gilset farm. It is now called Volden. These people were ve ry kind to us and answered many questions about Gilset. She had a co py of a photo of Eric, Marit, Eric's sister Olaug and first son John Pede r. To my knowledge no one else has seen this picture. It is on file. The G ilset farm was sold to Erik b 1867 d 1951, Ole b 1869 d 1951 og Ola b 18 75 d 1936, Ragnild b 1876 d 1973 og Gjertrud b 1835 d1925. The Gilset fa rm was sold to Karl Jensen Lokken b 1909 d1989 the house that Erik liv ed in was moved from a different location on the farm next to a barn. A n ew house was built and the original Gilset house was removed. I have a pic ture of a picture showing the Gilset farm after it was moved near thebar n. It is on file.
